Musical Director

Since its foundation, the Voice of Cork Community Choir has been privileged to have some fantastic musical directors, including Mr Padraig Wallace BA BMus (UCC), Honor Tuohy BMus (Hons) (CSM), and Mr Eamon Nash BMus(Hons) (CSM) and MA in music therapy. Since February 2022, the choir has been led with immense talent, energy and good humour by Mr Jimmy Brockie.

Mr Jimmy Brockie

Jimmy is a 26 year old Music Director, Actor and Composer from Ardmore, Co. Waterford. He is a first class honours graduate from the MTU Cork School Of Music with a Bachelor in Music, and also holds an MA in Commercial Composition and Performance from MTU. He was awarded the Alan Cutts Memorial Award for Conducting by the Cork School of Music in 2019. Jimmy has established himself as a music director, pianist, orchestrator/arranger and composer in Ireland. He is lucky to have performed in such Irish theatres as The 3Olympia, The Cork Opera House, The National Concert Hall, Dublin and The Everyman Palace to name a few.

Jimmy has been musically involved in over 60 productions and is among one of Ireland’s most foremost emerging Musical Directors. He has been lucky to have worked on such musicals as Bonnie and Clyde, Spring Awakening, Godspell, The Sound Of Music, Rent, Fiddler On The Roof, Beautiful, The Last Five Years, and most recently, as Associate Musical Director on Fun Home (dir. Roisin McBrinn, Gate Theatre Dublin) and as Music Producer/Arranger for “The Cork Pops Orchestra”(dir. Evelyn Grant, Cork City Hall). Last year, Jimmy was Musical Director for pantomimes in both the Cork Opera House and The 3Olympia Dublin and has recently been nominated for the AIMS Best Musical Director award for the third year in a row in both Gilbert and Sullivan categories.

Jimmy has provided orchestrations and arrangements for the National Concert Orchestra, notably, “A Night Of Musicals” with Lyric Fm and “The RTÉ Concert Orchestra Presents Christmas Eve” with RTE One. As a composer, Jimmy has written music for short films, plays and adverts including “The Day The Pubs Re-Opened” – dir. Kilian Petit (Silver Medal, London Seasonal Short Film Festival and Official Selection Independent Shorts Awards, LA), “Katty Barry, Queen Of The Coal Quay” – dir. Marion Wyatt and is currently composing for Marion’s new play, “The Echo Boys”.

Guest Conductors

We are fortunate to also work with guest conductors and accompanists at various points. This gives the choir the opportunity to benefit from a wide range of expertise and learn in different ways.
